A passion for discovery.
At Oil Sands Imaging we are a strong and cohesive team of industry-proven professionals who love what we do – and take great pride in doing it well. We’re dedicated to providing our clients with insight that will help them exploit their reservoirs with a higher degree of success.
Laurie Bellman, B.Sc., P. Geoph.
President and Chief Scientific Officer
Laurie Bellman has earned a reputation as one of the geophysical industry’s forward thinkers (and as one of most engaging speakers on the convention circuit).
Over a 25+ year career working with resource companies in Canada and Europe, Laurie has dedicated herself to improving our ability to understand the complex makeup of individual hydrocarbon reservoirs.
In 2000, her focus turned to the Canadian Oil Sands where she consulted to several leading companies. Demonstrating her talents as an independent creative thinker with a sound scientific grounding in this new field of energy development – she pioneered the application in the oil sands of an innovative methodology and workflow: Seismic Transformation and Classification (STAC™).
Laurie established Oil Sands Imaging in 2007. Today, the company has grown to meet the increasing demand for Laurie’s progressive and proven approach… in the oil sands applications and beyond.
As Chief Scientific Officer, Laurie is incredibly hands-on. She oversees all projects that come through our doors, working closely with clients to set objectives and expectations at the outset. Laurie takes personal responsibility for ensuring the OSI team meets or exceeds our rigorous quality standards and delivers the objectives as promised.
Career Path:
Shell Canada >> LASMO plc (London) >> Wascana Energy (London, Canada) >> Alberta Energy Company >> Nexen >> Oil Sands Imaging
Did you know? Laurie applied to work at NASA after her first year at the University of Victoria. She still thinks the sky’s the limit.
Nancy Laing, M.A.Sc.
Chief Executive Officer
When Laurie Bellman decided to expand Oil Sands Imaging, she needed a strong, personable manager with a solid geophysical background to assume the duties as CEO. She immediately contacted Nancy Laing: a former colleague from her days with Shell Canada and Wascana.
While it may sound like the plot of a movie, Nancy had left the industry to pursue a career as a film producer. The thought of guiding Oil Sands Imaging through a period of growth was too hard to resist, so she joined OSI in 2010.
Nancy has a wealth of direct industry experience, having worked as a senior geophysicist on projects throughout Alberta, Northern British Columbia and Saskatchewan. She’s walked the walk, so she can talk the talk.
As CEO, Nancy is responsible for the overall Client experience. She handles business and project management duties – freeing OSI’s technical and scientific experts to focus on what they do best. Nancy ensures every project is well managed, and serves as your main point of contact as an OSI client. She is responsible for establishing the project budgeting, scheduling and ongoing lines of communication.
Career Path:
Shell Canada Ltd. >> Illusions Entertainment >> Wascana Energy >> Earth to Sky Pictures >> Joe Media Group >> Oil Sands Imaging
Did you know? Prior to joining OSI, Nancy was a co-founder and President of a successful production company. And no, it wasn’t oil and gas production… but film production. Earth to Pictures Inc. produced several award winning movies and television series.
Jinling Zhang, M.Sc.
Senior Geophysicist
When you combine Jinling’s extensive experience and training as a geophysicist with her early background designing and developing commercial reservoir software, you have someone who not only understands the science – but the tools behind the calculations.
Jinling’s career in the oil and gas industry has spanned nearly 20 years. She has an M.Sc. in Computer Science from China University of Geosciences and her M.Sc. in Geophysics (Seismology) from the University of Manitoba. Jinling’s impressive resume has seen her thrive in a variety of positions in both China and Canada: working for companies ranging from PetroChina to Petro Canada; CGGVeritas to Dynamic Geosolutions.
A hard worker, Jinling welcomes whatever challenge your reservoir can throw at her.
Career Path:
PetroChina (China) >> Tripwell Manufacture Production Ltd. >> LandOcean Energy Services Co., Ltd. >> Petro Canada >> CCGVeritas >> Dynamic GeoSolutions 2008>> Oil Sands Imaging
Did you know? Jinling wanted to be a spy when she was a child?
Amanda Knowles, B.Sc. Hons.
Geophysicist
After completing her B.Sc. (with Honours) in Biology, Amanda worked as a lab tech with a sugar company. Along the way, she developed a passionate interest in geophysics – and soon found herself on a new career path.
Earth scientists often talk in eons. For Amanda, it just felt like it took her a billion years to complete her second degree in geophysics (as she was raising her children at the same time). A brilliant multi-tasker, she graduated in 2006. Since then, she has demonstrated a talent for seismic interpretation, modeling and post stack inversion. As a geophysicist with OSI, Amanda will draw upon her many skills to shed light on your reservoir.
Career Path:
Redpath Sugars >> Worley Parsons Komex >> RPS Boyd PetroSearch >> Oil Sands Imaging
Did you know? Amanda was called ‘The Bullet’ on her Trinity College Smashers football team at U of T?
Kevin Lee, B.Sc., P.Geoph.
Software Developer
As our geophysicists imagine new ways of looking at seismic and well data to find the clearest solution, Kevin creates the software tools that turn imagination into reality.
A long time industry veteran who trained and worked as a geophysicist before shifting his talents into computer programming, Kevin’s coding can be found in many of the industry’s leading software products. His knowledge and expertise has been invaluable in the ongoing development of OSI’s IMAC™ system and has helped us enhance our workflow for greater efficiency.
Career Path:
Union Pacific Resources >> Exploration Software Group >> Geco Prakla – (formerly SeisPro and Consultants Ltd.) >> CGGVeritas >> Oil Sands Imaging
Did you know? Kevin built a hot tub in the back of a pickup truck while camping (perfecting his design after experimenting with several prototypes).
Neil Praught
Geophysical and Geological Technologist
Neil is “The Gatekeeper” of all well and seismic data that comes into the company from our clients.
He is responsible for loading, maintaining, archiving and QC-ing client data – ensuring it is complete and meets OSI’s quality standards. He also creates many of the project tools we rely on for tracking progress. In addition, Neil builds velocity models, creates and correlates synthetic seismograms and even helps prepare final project reports.
As someone who is involved in most stages of the process, Neil loves being in the centre of the action. On top of his geosciences training, Neil also has an IT and graphic design background, which is often put to use in our growing company.
Career Path:
Windship Inflatables >> Corelogix Corp. >> Integrated Production Services >> Oil Sands Imaging
Did you know? Neil has visited 4 out of 7 continents including 17 countries. Check out Neil’s pictures on Google Earth or the web at http://www.panoramio.com/user/1682
