Laurie Bellman to present at EAGE workshop in Dubai, January 2012.

7.12.2011

Laurie Bellman will present one of only 18 papers selected for the EAGE workshop Applications & Challenges of Rock Physics for Quantitative Geophysical Interpretation in Dubai, 15 – 18 January 2012.

Workshop Description: Quantitative estimation of reservoir properties using surface seismic data, married with wells and engineering data, is gaining momentum in the industry. Rock Physics is proven to be the link between seismic and reservoir properties. As the E&P industry is challenged to explore more unconventional reservoirs such as the case of heavy oil, shale gas/oil, tight reservoirs, and fractured reservoirs, the rock physics community needs to provide accurate and more complex rock physics solutions and models.

The workshop, conducted for the first time in the Middle East, will bring experts of rock physics and seismic inversion as well as the experts of general quantitative geophysics together to discuss the above mentioned E&P evolving challenges. The workshop serves as a good venue for experts coming from the Middle East and from over the globe to share their experience and exchange new ideas with regards to the utilization of rock physics and quantitative geophysics in general to optimally develop and/or explore these challenging reservoirs.

Laurie’s presentation entitled “Quantitative Seismic Interpretation in the Canadian Oil Sands” will illustrate the significant advantages of seismic reservoir characterization and quantitative interpretation in oil sands developments enabling more confident identification of the geological features and associated reservoir quality and continuity.  Laurie’s full abstract will be available on www.earthdoc.org two weeks prior to the workshop. Stay tuned.
